Today I donated some blood.  For some strange reason i really enjoy medical procedures.  Of course, I documented it.

My iron levels were ‘the best they’d seen all day’  (guess i didn’t need those blood tests yesterday :-s)

You have to kind of clench and unclench your hand to help the blood flow better, i kept getting distracted by the lights and tubes and excitement of it all so they had to make me a little “toy” to play with.

It goes into a bag first…

blood bag

Then into the blood bin…

This was the WORST plaster to take off, the type that seems to fuse into your very skin.

Here’s what my blood might be used for:

mothers and babies

Leukemia patients

Burns victims

Cancer Patients

Accident victims

Cardiac surgery

Anaemia sufferers

Bone diseases

Renal/Kidney related illnesses

Only 5% of people in the UK give blood :(

I feel good about myself today

p.s you get a prize afterwards: orange squash and a packet of crisps.

haha yeah and this time the needle was biiiig. I had a dumb smile on my face the whole time and asked the nurse unending questions like “wow…so how long does it take? What’s that bag for? When that light comes on what does it mean? Do many people give blood? I feel fine what’s those tube and scissors for? Exactly how much blood are you taking?” i was like a kid haha, she walked away halfway through to escape.
